Vanderhoof Hardware provides the following services for the residents of Concord:
Fluorescent Light Bulb Recycling
Silver oxide batteries
- Used most frequently in watches, toys, and some medical devices
- Silver oxide batteries contain a small amount of mercury.
- Most jurisdictions regulate their handling and disposal to reduce the discharge of mercury into the environment.
- Silver oxide batteries can be recycled to recover the mercury.
Lithium ion batteries
- Lithium-ion batteries and lithium iron phosphate batteries often contain, among other useful metals, high-grade copper and aluminum in addition to, depending on the active material, transition metals cobalt and nickel, as well as rare earth metals.
- To prevent a future shortage of cobalt, nickel, and lithium and to enable a sustainable life cycle of these technologies, recycling processes for lithium batteries are needed. These processes have to regain not only cobalt, nickel, copper, and aluminum from spent battery cells, but also a significant share of lithium.
- Other potentially valuable and recoverable materials are graphite and manganese. Recycling processes today recover approximately 25% to 96% of the materials of a lithium-ion battery cell.
Town of Concord Curbside Trash & Recycling Collection Program
The Town of Concord has changed their trash & recycling program for the Fall 2024 (10/1/24 - 3/31/25).
Beginning October 1, 2024 the town will no longer require 6-month barrel stickers or require the use of bag tags* (see below). The town will issue toters - 1) 35-gallon carts for solid waste & 1) 96-gallon cart for recycling. In order to receive your new Solid Waste Tote and Recycling Tote you must have already signed up with the Town of Concord for waste removal. For any bag that does not fit into the Solid Waste Tote a disposal tag must be tied around the top of each bag. The disposal tags are $3.60 each. You may use either the yellow $3.60 disposal tag or two (2) orange $1.80 tags. THESE ARE ONLY REQUIRED FOR ADDITIONAL BAGS THAT DO NOT FIT INTO THE TOWN PROVIDED SOLID WASTE TOTE.
